CONTENT ARKETING: CREATE CONTENT THAT DRIVES TRAFFIC ONLINE

Create Content That Drives More Traffic

February 5, 2020

Content marketing is an aspect of marketing that requires lots of research to getting the right details and also making sure you drive traffic. It can be very difficult to get your content to stand out in this information-driven age. Statistics show that the internet publishes over 2 million blog posts every day. Despite this high number, only a few posts can generate traffic while you can still struggle with a few impressions and engagements on your content.

The issue is not that you don’t have good content like the others. It also could not be that you have not tried to push your content. You probably are using the wrong strategy. I am sure the wrong strategy is the “publish every week”, “re-post your content on Facebook and Twitter”, etc. I will share real tips that have worked that will help you drive traffic on your content and make you a star in your content niche.

1. RESEARCH AND STUDY SUCCESFUL BLOGS IN YOUR NICHE

Finding out what people in your content field are doing differently is the first rule in this step. You need to find out what makes their posts drive traffic. The best way to do this is by checking referral platforms. This then brings us to platforms like Wikipedia.

WIKIPEDIA

When you type in your niche into Wikipedia. Wikipedia has millions of articles written in over 100 languages.

Every search on Wikipedia brings a referral site where articles are published [apart from scientific researches]. This means that these articles are top-notch in your field and you should find out what they are doing differently. So if your niche is traveling, search travels on Wikipedia. You will find the referrals there and read up on the articles cited there.

CONTENT CURATORS

This is also another way to find out what the successful platforms in your niche are writing about that drive traffic. Content curation is just about gathering information relevant to your particular topic/area of interest that can give you ideas on how to create your content. For instance, you could check up on articles like 50 content ideas on traveling you can write about in the summer.

PINTEREST

Most times, people have underrated the effective influence that Pinterest has, especially for content creators and bloggers. Pinterest has referrals far more than you can get from Facebook and Twitter. Here is why Pinterest has more specified referrals. Unlike Facebook and Twitter that everyone uses, your pin is unlikely to be lost in the millions of posts or tweets made on Facebook and Twitter. Fun fact is Pinterest drives more referrals than LinkedIn, YouTube, Google+. The reason is that people prefer a site that gives more visualized information and Pinterest is a good place for that. You should look out for topics with lots of repins like this one below.

I typed in “travel” and found this pin with over 24,000 repins, that’s great traffic!

2. NOW THAT YOU’VE FOUND WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR, MAKE IT BETTER!

After you have successfully studied these successful blogs through the above method, the next step should be how to could input all you’ve learnt to make your content better. This then should bring results- drive more traffic on your blog!

UPDATE THOSE ARTICLES

Those article ideas you found, some of them could be old articles but are still driving traffic. What you do is bring that article idea up to date.

For example, if there was an article on ” Traveling Guides”, you could write an updated version like this “12 Traveling Guides To Help You In 2020”. You can see that you will most likely click on the latter topic first when you see both articles.

MAKE IT MORE DETAILED, WRITE BETTER!

Obviously, an article written two years ago could have outdated ideas already. It is your job to bring updated ideas into that article so that people have reasons to read yours from the former article. Also, this means that you must make sure you constantly keep your article updated frequently so that your article doesn’t become like an outdated piece of work and it remains relevant.

Give a different approach to the writing, give more examples that your readers can relate to compared to the previous article. Give them much more detailed information that makes them equipped with all that they might need to know about that topic.

UPGRADE THE DESIGN

I’ve spoken about the title, but you must make sure the headline, design, outlook of your article is much better than the article you saw. If your niche is in travel, you know that your audience will want more creative and beautiful photos of the places you are talking about.

Make sure your writing style doesn’t make your audience bored. There is a way you will write a 1000 word article and your audience will read it to the end. You can write a 750-word article and no one will even read past 300 words. Proper paragraphing, spacing, punctuation, inserting pictures rightly will all go a long way.

3. USE INTERESTED PEOPLE TO PROMOTE YOUR CONTENT

You must cancel out that mindset of writing great articles and just leaving it as it is. This can only work if you are a very popular blogger in your niche like Dan Flying Solo. You need to put in the effort to make sure that people who need your article get to see it. Once you have successfully completed the first and second steps above, find passionate people.

Find people passionate about what you write about and make them publicize your content. If you have a friend enthusiastic about traveling, send in your link so he can send it out to his mutual friends. If you mentioned influencers or popular people in your article, notify them via mail about that.

Hello [INSERT NAME],

Just to let you know that I mentioned you here: {URL}.

Thanks for the beautiful post!

Cheers,

That is enough for an internal linking on the blogger’s next post.

Also, Discussion Forums are still great platforms to publish your work. The good thing is that you get a bunch of people interested in one thing, in one place! If you wrote about DIY make-up removals on your blog, the best discussion forum to go is Make-Up Talk.com.

You can find similar bloggers to you and come up with a collaborative plan for mutual linking. You insert their links on your posts and they do the same. This is easy and you can send them an email which they will most likely respond. Finally, Word of Mouth on your personal social media platforms to your friends and family will also help you. CTAs will also drive your audience to help repost and share your links to their own networks and this will go a long way in generating traffic.

FINAL STEP?

The only final step is one that has no end and that is CONSISTENCY! You must make sure you are consistent with the steps explained above and you do them well. Trying it out once will drive traffic to your blog, but staying consistent will maintain traffic on your blog.

I hope you learned something from this long post. Why don’t you try out these ideas in this article and let me know the results you got? Do you have more ideas or tips? Share them in the comments!
